Wiscasset Senior Center

Doc Schilke

Be sure to reserve Monday, Dec. 20 and Wednesday, Dec. 22 on your social calendar for Christmas celebrations at the Senior Center. I'm sure everyone has their own personal feelings and thoughts about Christmas but I'm sure we can all agree that it is a time of peace and good will toward all.

With that in mind we will start our celebration with a Christmas party at our noon luncheon on Dec. 20. Santa will make an appearance and distribute presents. However he asked for our assistance. If you want to sit on Santa's lap and receive a present then you have to bring a $5 present. If you are a woman mark it "woman." If you are a man, mark it "man." We have determined that we have no "either," as members, so don't mark it "either."

If you don't want a gift, monetary donations to the Animal Shelter will be accepted. You also can do both.

On Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, we will have a Christmas dinner consisting of roast turkey with all the fixings. We will also have an appetizer table set out with things like deviled eggs, stuffed celery, olives, dips, cheese, crackers, chips, etc. for your nibbling pleasure before dinner. Unfortunately we have been unable to sign up any entertainment as of yet. However Joan and her husband Dick many sing Christmas carols for our enjoyment. When asked, Joan said, "Riiight." I take that as agreement, don't you?

I hope many of your were able to attend the tree lighting ceremony on the Town Green last Saturday. The high school band and the singers from the high school and middle school were better than ever. And how about the cookies that were served afterwards? Just great! My favorite was the gingerbread men. The master cookie bakers at the Senior Center made them! Did you get a chance to look at all the lights along Main Street? Didn't they shine just a bit brighter this year because of the volunteers that hung them with care? This is the joy of Christmas time in a small town.
