Do You Remember?
Horses on the loose, CB radios, and Honor Roll students: Where are they now? Editor's Note: These are excerpts from our paper exactly 23 years ago to the day. News clips compiled by Liz Brown. Wild West Wiscasset? It would seem as though Wiscasset would have made the perfect cowboy training ground when the Wiscasset Police Blotter of Dec. 1 read, "Loose horses were reported in the parking lot of the Miss Wiscasset Diner at 5:15 a.m." and again on Dec. 4, "Unattended horses were reported roaming on Huntoon Hill Road at 8:50 a.m." From CB To Cell Phone According to the Boothbay Harbor Police Blotter, on Dec. 5, "an accident on the Middle Road was reported by CB radio at 1:30 p.m." If the same accident took place today, it would probably be reported by cellular phone. From CB to cellphone to who knows what in another 23 years! Where Are They Now? "Wiscasset Smoke Signals," written by the Wiscasset High School Journalism class, listed the first quarter honor roll. Senior Richelle Latter, now Ponteau, was the only student in the school listed with all A's. Richelle is now the Property Tax Collector for Wiscasset, a member of the Wiscasset School Board, and also works at Gardiner Savings Institution. Four seniors made the three A's honor roll: Jean Cheney, Doreen Dow, Mark Jordan and Deborah Lebel. Of these four, we were able to find Jean Cheney, now Huber, who is the Office Manager for Coastal Title in Damariscotta. Eight seniors made the all B's honor roll: Debra Bailey, Lori Dore, Brenda Flanders, Karl Geib, Jerry Johnson, Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, and Wanda Swasey. Of these eight, Debra Bailey, now Speed, lives in Wiscasset and operates "Over The Rainbow Nursery School" with her partner Jodi Benn. Brenda Flanders is now a speech therapist and lives in Sarasota, Fla. Karl Geib is a police officer in Portland. Jerry Johnson is a mechanical engineer for United Technologies in Shelton, Conn. Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, a former AFS student, lives in his home country of Germany. We heard he may be a journalist. |
